We have developed our own bespoke, documented safety management systems designed to ensure that the relevant Health & Safety legislative requirements are identified and procedures in place to comply with them. We fully accept our responsibility for the Health, Safety and Welfare of all our employees and any other persons who may be affected by our operations.

Health, Safety & Welfare is an integral part of our daily business and all members of staff undergo regular training.

We conform to all aspects of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations in the role of Principal Contractor.

At A B Canham & Son we see the Health, Safety and Welfare of all concerned, together with minimising our impact on the environment as key to the continued success of the business. Continual monitoring of our compliance and continuous improvement are an absolute priority.

A B Canham & Son comply with the “Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998” (PUWER).

We have contracts with main dealerships for Hitachi, JCB and Thwaites for maintenance and repairs of our plant and a local tool hire company for regular maintenance of tools.

Our lifting equipment and accessories are periodically inspected and certificated by third party companies to comply with the “Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998”(LOLER)

A B Canham & Son commits to providing and maintaining so far as is reasonably practicable a safe and healthy workplace and environments for its employees contractors clients and all visitors within its area’s of control on all their projects. The company is committed to its legal duties under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and any subordinate legislation and will provide sufficient resources to achieve this aim.

Health and safety is the responsibility or every employee within A B Canham & Son and it is important that everyone works together to achieve and maintain reasonable standards of heath and safety.

Objectives

In order to achieve its aims the following objectives have been set:

  • To assess the risks arising from all activities record any significant findings and take the appropriate action to eliminate or control risk.
  • To provide all necessary information and training to employees to ensure that they can work safely.
  • To regular consult with employees on matters that affect their health and safety.
  • To make regular inspections of the workplaces to ensure that safe conditions are maintained and where any part of the workplace falls below legal standards take appropriate action to remedy the problem.
  • To report and investigate all accidents and near misses and where appropriate carry out an investigation into their causes.

This policy will be reviewed at least annually or when there are changes to either the business or the law.
