A B Canham & Son has been on a path of steady, sustained growth for some years now and 2021 saw us reach a very important milestone. For the first time in our existence, A B Canham & Son were moved up to the ‘Medium’ size housebuilder category in the NHBC’s Pride in the Job Awards – an annual event we are automatically entered into as we offer our new homes with the respected NHBC Buildmark warranty.

Our upgrade from ‘Small’ to ‘Medium’ housebuilder reflects our increased yearly output and we now join other construction professionals who annually build between 51 and 1,000 new homes. This new position within the industry joins our existing standing as an A1-class builder – the very top rating awarded – and we are deemed by the NHBC as a ‘long-serving registered builder with a good claims record’.

We are thrilled that even in our first year as a ‘Medium’ housebuilder – a category in which we keep illustrious company and where many of the large house builders sit – we have already enjoyed success. Our Site Manager at Boughton Monchelsea, Martin Barth, was recently crowned 2021’s overall South East Regional Winner in the Medium Builder category, additionally taking home a Seal of Excellence award in the process.

“We have always been and always will be a family run company,” says Michael Canham, “but that doesn’t mean we have to have a small, provincial outlook. Our core senior management team has overseen sensible growth at A B Canham & Son – it’s an achievement that has come over time and been built on solid foundations. It really is a team effort – we have relied on our directly-employed construction professionals and Site Managers, including Martin, to deliver an increasing number of new homes every year. They have not let us down, even in the most challenging of circumstances,” adds Michael.

“Our growth has not come at the expensive of quality, however. Our award winning streak continues, recognising that we can scale up our operation and continue to deliver the product we were renowned for as a ‘small’ housebuilder.”

A B Canham & Son is currently finalising its build schedule for 2022. The company is on course to deliver more than 150 new homes in the coming 12 months, keeping it firmly in the ‘Medium’ housebuilder category.
